Dutch people moving to Portugal
You may already know some Portuguese from holidays, or you may be starting again as an adult. We focus on local daily life: the phrases that get you through a queue, a phone call, or a letter that uses three words you have never seen together. Portuguese from Portugal is the default here; Brazilian Portuguese can be discussed where relevant.
The bridge: shared Latin layers, different vowels
Dutch and Portuguese have exchanged words through Latin, trade, and empire, but the everyday music is very different. Portuguese vowels are often reduced and nasal, especially in European Portuguese. Dutch spelling can make Portuguese pronunciation look more predictable than it is. We treat listening and pronunciation as core work, not finishing touches.

Both come from Latin strata; Portuguese retained the Romance form and Dutch borrowed through Germanic.
