Portuguese for English speakers
Portugal and Brazil can look like one language on paper and sound quite different on the street. Choose the Portuguese that fits where you are going, then learn to hear and answer it in real situations.
From €25 per lesson with the ten-lesson package (€250 prepaid).
The situations we build around
- European or Brazilian pronunciation, vocabulary, and expressions, chosen for your life.
- Everyday independence: cafés, transport, appointments, landlords, neighbors, and work.
- Listening and speaking confidence, with less translating in your head and more responding in the moment.
For English speakers putting down roots
Whether you are moving to Portugal or Brazil, making a home with someone from a Portuguese-speaking country, or working in Portuguese, we can work with the variant and situations that match. I have lived in Portugal for around fifteen years and in Brazil for one, and I will not pretend the two experiences are the same.
The bridge: English roots, Portuguese sounds
English and Portuguese share a deep layer of Latin-derived vocabulary: escola and school, obrigado and obliged, difícil and difficult. That layer helps with reading and recognition, but it can build a false sense of safety. Portuguese pronunciation, articles, pronouns, and verb endings do their own work. We use the shared roots, then make the actual spoken language the priority.
The Latin root is doing the same job in both languages.
Looks like push; means pull. A false friend worth meeting deliberately.
